A2B Support of Air Force UID Rollout in Europe Highlighted
PORTSMOUTH, RI (January 11, 2011) - Aviano Air Base in Italy is the first USAFE (US Air Force Europe) base to undertake full scale UID part marking. The UID team, consisting of four A2B marking technicians assisted by military personnel, has nearly completed the task of marking 13,515 pieces of equipment at Aviano. The effort was begun in early November 2010.
In August 2010, A2B was awarded a USAF contract worth $20 million in support of the Air Force Item Unique Identification (IUID) Part Marking Program. Under the contract A2B personnel are marking assets, with specialized Data Matrix bar codes, at 221 Air Force bases around the world. The purpose of the mark is to enable serialized item tracking under the DoD’s IUID Program. A2B, the leading provider of UID enterprise software solutions and a major UID label and plate manufacturer, will supply all of the 10 million required labels under a 2008 contract. The company also provides UID support to the Marine Corps, the Army, the Navy and DoD contractors.
