US Air Force Team Wins Department of Defense Award at UID Forum
PORTSMOUTH, RI (March 17, 2010) –
A2B Tracking Solutions Inc. was named in the coveted Team Excellence Award
presented during the UID Forum last month in San Antonio. The honor was in recognition of A2B’s efforts
in support of the US Air Force – Nuclear Weapons Related Material. A2B
President Peter Collins said, “We at A2B are proud to be playing a key role,
not only in helping the Air Force to meet its requirements for nuclear asset
visibility, but beyond that to enabling the visibility of all USAF assets
through item unique identification (IUID). We congratulate this outstanding
team and their accomplishments.”
Background
In
2008, incidents regarding the US Air Force track record to identify and account
for the condition and location of nuclear weapons related materiel (NWRM) with
precision and reliability was a hot topic in the media. The story specifically
focused on the loss of inventory control of ICBM fuses accidentally shipped to Taiwan. This
event was a clear indicator of an enterprise that lacked necessary safeguards
and controls required for handling nuclear weapons and nuclear weapons related
materiel. Achieving nuclear asset visibility involves the enforcement and
practice of strict control of item movement, as well as the capture and
delivery of timely, reliable, and accurate data of that movement. In order to
provide the Air Force with this level of asset visibility for these critically
managed items, the IUID Implementation Team devised an ambitious plan in August
2008 to apply IUID marks to NWRM assets.
To
achieve this plan, a team of world-class professionals was assembled to support
the critical phases of strategy development, planning and execution. The NWRM
equipment marking efforts resulted in the marking and registration of over
2,100 assets at Tinker AFB, OK. These assets were marked over the course of 23
days. In addition to the inherent benefits of marking NWRM, this effort also
advanced the Air Force toward fulfilling the Office of the Under Secretary of
Defense’s edict, from its 16 October 2008 Policy memorandum, that all NWRM
assets will be marked with IUID. With these 2,100 assets complete, the Air
Force has built considerable momentum going into 2010 to continue its march
toward 100% IUID compliance with increased emphasis on intensive item
management on NWRM assets.
The Team Excellence Award was
presented by Ms. LeAntha Sumpter, (Deputy
Director for Program Development and Implementation, Defense Procurement &
Acquisition Policy in the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for AT&L)
and Mr. Robert Leibrandt (Deputy). The US Air Force NWRM Team includes: Mr.
Randy Koram, Mr. Mark Reboulet, Mr. Jesse Underbakke, Mr. Peter Collins (A2B
Tracking), Mr. Vijay Pasupuleti, Mr. Roderick Diehl and Mr. Terry Watts. For
